Moore and Fairhall + Resonant Bodies (double bill)
26th August / The Lescar / £10 (£7 NUS)
A unique double bill, mixing ancient and modern sounds, folk, minimalist and jazz influences.
Violinist Olivia Moore (Unfurl) and accordionist Adam Fairhall bring their unique and poetic music, a mix of Indian Ragas, American Folk and jazz from all eras; lyrical,
passionate, and highly rhythmic, they've performed across the UK, at venues from Dover to Newcastle and their debut album 'Triangles' on New Jazz and Improvised Recordings
has received critical acclaim, described as "A magical release" by Wire Magazine.
Olivia Moore combines a beautiful sound with energy and sensitivity. Dedicated to Jazz and Indian classical violin, she has studied with trailblazing violinist Kala Ramnath
in Mumbai and tours nationally and internationally with her own projects and with other artists such as Elaha Soroor, Jean Toussaint, Matthew Bourne, Stuart McCallum,
Alabaster DePlume, Jason Singh, and Suns of Arqa, as well as pop legends Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott, and at venues including Glastonbury festival, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Bridgwater Hall.
"…her obvious joy in playing swells through her impassioned but restrained violin and offers her audience both an emotional and a cerebral fulfilment." - Chris Long, BBC Manchester
Adam Fairhall has over the last decade gained international recognition for his playing, including with Nat Birchall, and with Revival Room, one of 2021's best albums.
As a pianist he draws an understanding of early jazz into free and contemporary jazz settings, an idiosyncratic and distinctive voice, and he has become increasingly active as an accordionist.
"A rising star of the piano" - BBC Radio 3, Jazz Line-Up
"Fairhall's piano is a questing, quixotic voice with a comprehensive 'inside and out' vocabulary" - Jazzwise
"A hugely accomplished instrumentalist" - The Wire
Resonant Bodies are Rob Bentall on Nykelharpa, and Zebedee Budworth on Hammered Dulcimer, both founder members of Sheffield's acclaimed minimalists Emergence Collective,
and doom-folk ensemble Slug Milk, their music represents a reimagining of their medieval instruments through improvisation, ranging from calm to chaotic, incantatory and mesmerising.
Rob Bentall performs primarily with Swedish nyckelharpa and electronics and has worked internationally in Sweden, Mexico and Indonesia.
Award-winning composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Zebedee Budworth (hammered dulcimer) has worked all over the world in a wide-ranging career as a composer,
in film and advertising notably scoring The Thing With Feathers (starring Benedict Cumberbatch) and Meet Me In The Bathroom (both Sundance premieres),
and his music has earned praise from Pitchfork and NME. He has performed across major UK festivals, Europe, and Japan.
Together they create a sound that ebbs and flows gently through rich sonorities, bound together in a beautiful and hypnotic improvised dialogue.
